Breast Examination
Mammography
Mammography is an X-ray technique specifically for the breast. By sandwiching each breast between special plates and taking a picture as thin as possible, it is possible to clearly see the fat and glandular tissue in the breast. Mammography is excellent at showing minute calcifications, which are a characteristic of early-stage cancer and are difficult to detect with ultrasound.
Our hospital uses the "MAMMOMAT Revelation" mammography system manufactured by Siemens Healthineers.
Have subjective breast symptoms
Equipped with a pain relief mechanism
When it touches the breast, the compression plate moves slowly to provide optimal pressure for each individual.
In addition, the compression plate is made of a soft material and can bend to fit various breast shapes.
*The feeling of pain may vary from person to person depending on when the breasts are engorged and your physical condition.
Radiation exposure reduction technology
It is now possible to take images at a lower dose than with conventional mammography. It is possible to combine mammography and tomosynthesis at a very low dose.
● Tomosynthesis (3D mammography)
Tomosynthesis is a combination of tomography and synthesis, and is sometimes called 3D mammography. It is a method of imaging in which slice images of the breast are created by moving the X-ray tube. The tomosynthesis of our hospital's Siemens MAMMOMAT Revelation is performed at a wide swing angle (50°), resulting in high-resolution images. By creating slice images, lesions that could not be seen due to overlapping mammary glands can be more clearly depicted, eliminating the overlapping tissues.
● Photographed by a female technician
Breast imaging at our hospital is performed by female technicians.
please
Please inform us if you have a history of breast augmentation, pacemaker, or VP shunt.
Travel time
The duration of stay in the hospital is approximately 60 minutes
・The test takes about 10 minutes
Inspection results
We will explain the results to you on the day after the test.
*The results of the Sumida Ward medical examination will be available at a later date.
Ultrasound
This is a test that uses ultrasound to create images of the breasts. Ultrasound tests can detect very small lumps that cannot be felt by hand. Women under 40 have developed mammary glands, so it is often difficult to tell if they have a lump or not with a mammogram, but ultrasound tests can confirm lumps. It has become possible to determine whether a lump is benign or malignant based on the shape of the lump and the condition of its border.
Our hospital uses the LOGIQ E9 ultrasound diagnostic equipment manufactured by GE Healthcare Japan.
● Improved detection of microcalcifications
By arranging the probe elements in the thickness direction, three-dimensional beam forming is realized. A uniform and thin ultrasound beam is generated from just below the probe to deep areas, allowing even detection of minute diseases and microcalcifications.
● Volume Imaging improves objectivity
A 3D probe is used to capture the disease in three dimensions. Information on C-sections and arbitrary sections that cannot be obtained with normal probes can be obtained. Image analysis can also be performed using multiple cross-section displays similar to CT and MRI, allowing confirmation of tumors, the spread of milk ducts, and surrounding tissue contraction caused by breast cancer.
● Compare with MR images using Volume Navigation
It is possible to combine the high resolution and real-time nature of ultrasound with the high sensitivity and objectivity of MRI. The ultrasound and MRI images are displayed in real time, allowing detailed comparisons. This is expected to be useful for diagnosing the spread of cancer, identifying accessory lesions, providing a second look, and evaluating the extent of surgery.

Needle biopsy (tissue biopsy)
A needle biopsy may be performed if the results of a breast cancer screening test indicate that further examination is necessary, or to determine what disease is causing a breast lump or other condition.
A needle biopsy is a test in which a relatively thick needle is inserted into the breast lump to take a small piece of tissue for examination. Local anesthesia is administered, so there is almost no pain. The examination is performed while checking the area to be taken using mammography or ultrasound.
Travel time
- Stay in the hospital for approximately 60 minutes
・The test takes about 15 minutes
Inspection results
We will let you know in about 1-2 weeks.
Mammotome biopsy (affiliated medical institution)
This test uses a special tool called a mammotome to take a small piece of tissue and examine it while observing calcifications with mammography. Since a larger amount can be taken than with a needle biopsy, a mammotome biopsy is recommended when only calcifications are found in the breast.
MRI (affiliated medical institution)
An MRI is performed to check for the spread of cancer in the breasts and to detect small lumps.
This allows for a clearer image of breast lesions and is performed when breast cancer is suspected through other tests or when it is difficult to determine whether the lesion is benign or malignant.
